Thank you for your question about your snipes. I did a lookup for all of the items fitting your description, where your bid was just under the cost.

What's happening is that when we place your snipe, the other bidder bid higher, so eBay adds one "minimum bid increment" to your bid, and that becomes the closing price.
eBay adds what is called a "minimum bid increment" to the current price. They do this to honor the traditional nature of auctions, which is for the auctioneer to raise the price after each bid.
